Cardiff West falls completely within the limits of Cardiff Council. The constituency is diverse in both demogragphy and landscape. It includes the wards of Canton, Riverside, Caerau, Fairwater, Llandaff, Radyr, Ely, Creigau and Pentyrch. The Welsh Liberal Democrats are the largest party on Cardiff Council, and currently lead the administration. In 2008, the Welsh Liberal Democrats doubled their number of councillors in Cardiff West, as support for Labour plummeted.
