Ming Campbell visits Cardiff West

6.31.01pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 17th Apr 2007

Alison Goldsworthy, candidate for the Lib Dems in Cardiff West, today welcomed Ming Campbell MP, Leader of the Liberal Democrats, to Cardiff West. Alison and Ming were joined at Radyr Comprehensive School by John Dixon, lead list candidate for South Wales Central.

Alison Goldsworthy said:

"Ming met a large group of sixth form students who also go the opportunity to ask him questions. They questioned him and us on a wide range of topics, including education and the environment.

The reception from the students was warm, and it backs up what I am seeing on the doorstep, that voters are turning the Liberal Democrats. Our opposition to the war in Iraq and commitment to green issues really resonates.

Of course many young people, feel like I do, that Labour betrayed their trust introducing both tuition and top up fees after pledging not to.

A visit by the leader of the Liberal Democrats shows how seriously the party takes Cardiff West - we are taking votes from the Labour party and even doing it in the First Minister's constituency."
