Brennan backs Bush and Blair on Trident

6.44.52am GMT Thu 15th Mar 2007

Welsh Liberal Democrats spokesperson for Cardiff West, Alison Goldsworthy has today blasted Kevin Brennan after he voted in favour of replacing trident, the system that supports the UK's nuclear warheads.

Alison Goldsworthy said:

"Tonight the government have tied us into a decision that will spend billions and billions of our money. It is all about securing Blair's legacy not about securing nation.

The world is a rapidly changing place - who says Trident will be an appropriate defence mechanism in the coming years.

In 2010 the UK will be arguing for other countries not to develop nuclear weapons whilst we are developing are own. A hypocritical position and one Kevin Brennan and Tony Blair have wrongly committed us to.

Kevin Brennan backed the Government tonight, his priority is having a nuclear arsenal and backing Blair and Bush. My priority is doing what is best for our country"
