Brennan challenged over Cash for Honours

4.25.28pm GMT Sun 31st Dec 2006

As the New Year Honours list was published, Cardiff West Lib Dem Alison Goldsworthy has challenged Labour MP for Cardiff West, Kevin Brennan to declare if he has been contacted or questioned by the police over the cash for honours scandal.

Alison Goldsworthy, spokesperson for Cardiff West Lib Dems said:

"The Cash for Honours investigation goes right to the heart of the Labour Government - even Tony Blair has been questioned. Kevin Brennan played a key role in Labour's 2005 General Election, acting as aide to Alan Milburn who was in charge of the Election Strategy."

"We know that many people involved in Labour's election efforts have been questioned, including Alan Milburn, Kevin's former boss. Residents of Cardiff West have a right to know if Kevin has also been contacted by the police."

Notes

1) Alan Milburn MP was Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster in the run up to and during the 2005 General Election campaign, he defined his role as being 'in charge of general election planning .' Kevin Brennan was appointed his PPS in 2004 .

2) Scotland Yard police have confirmed that they have interviewed all members of the Cabinet in the run up to the General Election, including Alan Milburn .
