Cardiff West Liberal Democrats tonight unanimously selected Alison Goldsworthy to be their candidate at the 2007 Welsh Assembly Elections. Alison works for a leading disability charity campaigning to break the link between poverty and disability. At 23, Alison, who previously ran the Lib Dem's Youth and Student wing across the UK, will be one of the youngest candidates at the Assembly Election. She lives in the Canton area of the constituency.

Alison Goldsworthy said, 'For too long Labour have taken Cardiff West for granted. Rhodri Morgan is bungling from one error to another, be it on ambulance services, police mergers or a total inability to express a view on Tony Blair and George Bush's Iraq War.

She added, 'The Lib Dems came second in Cardiff West at the 2004 local elections. At last years General Election I forced the victor, Labour's Kevin Brennan to admit that his party has lost votes to the Lib Dems. There should be no doubt that in Cardiff West it is a fight between Labour and the Lib Dems. I will be campaigning on issues where Labour have let down Cardiff West such as post office closures and the ill thought through police force mergers.'

Cllr Jacqui Gasson, Liberal Democrat Councillor for Caerau said 'Having fought Labour myself in Cardiff West, I'm happy to pass on the baton to Alison, who I know will put up a good fight.'
